Master of Science in Nursing – AGACNP (Hybrid)

MSN Curriculum

The Hybrid MSN-AGACNP totals 44 credit hours. Non-clinical courses are delivered asynchronously online; specialty track courses are synchronous and held in person.

Students attend approximately eight on-campus simulation sessions throughout the program focused on acute assessment, resuscitation, and invasive procedures.

One-on-one faculty advising is provided throughout the program.

  • Introduction to Management of the Acutely Ill – Assessment, diagnosis, and management of adult and geriatric patients with acute and chronic conditions; includes didactic, lab, and clinical components. Emphasis on evidence-based practice, pharmacological agents, health promotion, and clinical decision-making.
  • Adult/Gerontology Management of the Acutely Ill Adult/Gerontology 2 – Continuation of acute care management across the continuum of acute care settings. Builds on physiological, psychological, and sociocultural assessment skills. Didactic, lab, and clinical components.
  • Advanced Management of the Acutely Ill Adult/Gerontology 3 – Advanced synthesis of diagnostic and management skills for complex acutely ill adult and geriatric patients. Integrates evidence-based reasoning, differential diagnosis, and pharmacological management. Didactic, lab, and clinical components.
  • Comprehensive Care of the Older Adult – Primary care management of older adults across healthcare and community settings. Emphasizes pharmacological management, functional status, and quality-of-life outcomes. Didactic and clinical components.

MSN Clinicals

Students complete 750 supervised clinical hours with support from UIndy’s School of Nursing staff in locating and securing central Indiana clinical sites.

Clinical skills are taught and reinforced through specialty courses and expert-led, in-person simulation experiences.

Recommended pre-program RN experience includes ICU, step-down units, medical-surgical, or emergency room settings.

MSN Admissions Requirements

  • BSN from a regionally accredited NLN-AC or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Valid Indiana professional nursing license or unencumbered RN license in an approved state
  • Approved states: Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky only
  • One year of full-time RN work experience before applying; two years of demonstrated experience required by the program start date
  • Recommended experience: ICU, step-down units (MPC, CPCU), medical-surgical, or ER (part-time experience evaluated case by case)
  • Completed online graduate nursing application
  • One recommendation letter from a current or recent supervisor with a minimum BSN
  • Current resume demonstrating qualifying RN experience
  • Essay addressing career goals related to becoming a Nurse Practitioner
  • Official transcripts from all previous college work
  • Faculty interview may be required
  • Two intake periods: Fall and Spring

Graduate fees for hybrid/on-campus programs are $780 per full-time semester (9+ credit hours; nursing threshold is 8+ hours) or $472 per part-time semester, plus $88 for summer sessions.

Accreditation

The University of Indianapolis MSN-AGACNP program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
