Master of Science in Nursing – AGACNP

MSN Curriculum

Students must complete 22 credits of MSN core courses before progressing to the 18-credit AGACNP concentration, plus 4 additional nurse practitioner core credits.

AGACNP Concentration:

NURS 05538 – Adult Acute and Chronic Disease Management (3 cr)
This course trains AGACNP students to link assessment findings to differential diagnoses, tests, and treatment plans. Students use evidence to manage complex adult and older adult conditions. Topics include mental health, neurologic, renal, pulmonary, vascular, endocrine, GI, and related disorders.

NURS 05533 – AGACNP Adult Medicine Clinical I (3 cr, 200–250 hours listed)
This clinical course applies AGACNP health promotion, assessment, and management skills in acute care. Students care for mature and older adults with complex acute and chronic problems. Students also practice team-based care with an interprofessional focus.

NURS 05534 – Evidence Based Clinical Care for AGACNP I (3 cr)
This course builds acute care decision making using evidence-based diagnostics and therapeutics. Students develop differential diagnoses from assessment data and select appropriate interventions. Topics include cardiac issues, toxic exposure, sepsis, pain, oncology, fluids and electrolytes, endocrine, musculoskeletal, and GI disorders.

NURS 05535 – AGACNP Adult Medicine Clinical II (3 cr, 200–250 hours listed)
This clinical course expands AGACNP management of complex adult and geriatric patients in acute settings. Students strengthen diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up under preceptor supervision. Students also improve collaboration with patients, families, and care teams.

NURS 05536 – Evidence Based Clinical Care for AGACNP II (3 cr)
This course advances clinical reasoning for high-acuity, life-threatening conditions across body systems. Students integrate assessment, diagnostics, and therapies for critical illness. Case work emphasizes rapid recognition, safe intervention, and outcome-focused management.

NURS 05537 – AGACNP Adult Medicine Clinical III (3 cr, 200–250 hours listed)
This advanced practicum develops competency in high-acuity and critical care environments. Students perform comprehensive assessments and order or interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests with preceptor guidance. Clinical sites may include ED, ICU, step-down, transplant, oncology, long-term care, rehab, and acute gerontology settings, with a strong focus on team collaboration.

MSN Clinicals

The program requires 750 total clinical hours across three clinical courses.

  • AGACNP Adult Medicine Clinical II: 250 hours
  • AGACNP Adult Medicine Clinical III: 250 hours

MSN Admissions Requirements

  • Completed online application with $65 non-refundable fee
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale)
  • Current valid U.S. RN license (must maintain active New Jersey RN license throughout program)
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended in sealed envelopes
  • Current professional resume
  • Valid CPR card (updated every two years)
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • Individual Professional Malpractice Insurance (required at application and throughout program)
  • Completion of foundation courses: Comprehensive Health Assessment and Research Applications in Nursing Practice

Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study – AGACNP

The estimated cost for the CAGS – AGACNP program is $19,118 (22 credits × $869/credit) and would take 2 years to complete on a part-time basis.

CAGS Curriculum

The certificate program is designed for nurses who already hold an MSN and includes 22 graduate credits. A GAP analysis determines which MSN core courses may be needed before entering the concentration.
