Students apply assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to acute care decision making. Weekly seminars cover diagnostics, treatments, and care coordination. The practicum includes 200 supervised clinical hours.
NURS 711: Care of Older Adults, Acute Care Theory and Practicum (7 credits)
This course develops acute and critical care skills for older adults, including frail elders. Students use advanced assessment and clinical science to guide diagnosis and treatment planning. Weekly seminars emphasize therapeutic choices and coordination of complex care. The practicum includes 200 supervised clinical hours.
NURS 712: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP, Seminar and Internship (7 credits)
This course serves as the final internship experience for adult-gerontology acute care practice from adolescence through end of life. Students integrate assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to manage high-acuity adult cases. The practicum includes 250 supervised clinical hours to meet role competencies. Students also complete a professional portfolio during the term.
MSN Clinicals
The program requires 650 total clinical practicum hours distributed across three clinical courses during the acute care clinical year.
- Care of Younger Adults: 200 practicum hours with adults in internal/hospital medicine
- Care of Older Adults: 200 practicum hours with adults in critical care settings
- AGACNP Seminar and Internship: 100 hours in a specialty, 150 hours in internal medicine
MSN Admissions Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited BSN program with minimum 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale)
- Official transcripts from all postsecondary schools attended
- 1 year of recent critical care experience
- Active RN licensure in Pennsylvania (Additional NJ license required before clinical year)
- Completion of statistics course at undergraduate or graduate level with grade of C or better
- Two professional references, one from a supervisor
- Written statement of professional goals explaining reasons for pursuing AGACNP
- Professional resume or curriculum vitae
- Interview with Program Admissions Committee
MSN Pathway Option for Moravian BSN Students:
- BSN graduates or current students with 3.0+ cumulative GPA
- 3.0+ GPA in nursing major
- At least eight units of coursework at Moravian
- Statistics course completion with C or better
- One recommendation from undergraduate nursing faculty
- Resume submission
- Direct admission available within two years of BSN graduation
