Certificate Curriculum

The certificate curriculum consists of 5 courses totaling approximately 17-19 credit hours focusing on acute care management of complex adult and geriatric patients.

Required Courses:

NG 907 Healthcare Systems, Policy and Law (3)
This course examines how healthcare systems, policy, and law shape advanced practice nursing. Students analyze policy development, regulation, financing, and legal frameworks that affect access, quality, safety, and care delivery.

NG 912 Acute Care I (3)
This course develops clinical competence in adult and geriatric acute and critical care settings. Students integrate assessment, diagnostics, and advanced therapeutics to manage acute and chronic conditions. Case-based seminars reinforce evidence-based clinical decision-making.

NG 913 Acute Care I Clinical (3)
This clinical course applies Acute Care I concepts in high-acuity practice settings. Under preceptor supervision, students perform advanced assessments, order diagnostics, and manage complex adult and elder patients. Clinical performance is graded pass/fail.

NG 914 Acute Care II (3)
Building on Acute Care I, this course advances diagnostic reasoning and management of complex adult and geriatric conditions. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based treatment planning in critical and specialty care environments.

NG 915 Acute Care II Clinical Practicum (3)
This practicum extends prior acute care clinical training with increased responsibility in high-acuity settings. Students refine advanced assessment, diagnostic, and management skills while caring for complex adult and older patients. Clinical evaluation is pass/fail.

The curriculum provides in-depth knowledge of pathophysiology and management of complex patient health issues in acute and fast-paced settings. Students develop advanced diagnostic skills, therapeutic interventions, and collaborative abilities to manage critically ill adult and geriatric populations.
